James was born
in Lehi Utah Sept 19.1939 to Ellis and Hazel Powell. He is the third child of
five children. His father and mother worked a farm in Lehi until his dad went
to work for Interpace Brick plant. So when he was about six years of age his
family moved to Salt Lake. He attended Roosevelt elementary school and went on
to Granite High school where he graduated. As a boy he enjoyed raising pigeons,
fishing, camping, building model air plans, and boys scouts.
At the age of seventeen he enlisted in the U.S. Navy {It was called the kitty
cruse} where he spent three years. He sailed the pacific ocean to Hawaii, Japan,
Alaska, and San Diego Calif. While in the navy he spent his time taking
schooling in electronics. After his three years he was discharged with the rate
of IC2. He then came back to Salt Lake and went to work fixing home appliances.
Then worked in a brick plant in Murray. He met his wife Bonnie in Feb. 1962
{who had three children Ken, Diane, Leona }They married Sept. 15 1962 in Elko
Nevada. The following Aug they had a baby boy they named David. He was a joy to
all of us.
He went to work for Interpace brick in Ogden Utah from there he worked for
Kennecott copper then Flying J refinery where he retired at the age of about 52
because of his health. He now enjoys growing a garden and working in the yard.
